Made by Drew Noon MW. Langhorne Creek. 90% Shiraz, 7% Grenache, 3% Cabernet. Alluvial silt with clay. 20 m above sea level. 1,800 vines/ha. Pruning: single wire, spur pruned. Yields 50 hl/ha. Fermented in open vats. 18 months in 300-litre French and American oak, 40% new. Bottled October 2011. pH 3.61, TA 6.1 g/l, RS 2 g/l. Annual production 10,200 bottles. Seckford are UK importers for Noon wines. Very dark blueish crimson. Thick, sweet and slightly charred. Dry finish with acidity that's a bit notable at this point. This is one of the more serious wines to carry the Langhorne Creek appellation, which Noon has long championed. (JR)

Glass-staining purple. An explosively perfumed bouquet summons dark fruit compote, licorice, lavender, woodsmoke and cola, with an intense floral overtone. Lush, expansive and weighty but surprisingly lively, offering well knit palate-staining blueberry and cherry flavors. Finishes with a whiplash of sweet floral pastille and spice notes and with outstanding length and energy.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Reserve Shiraz is a little closed at this stage, revealing a subtle earthy character over restrained notes of creme de cassis, mulberries and licorice, plus hints of cloves, lavender, spice cake, espresso and bacon fat. Very concentrated and richly fruited on the full bodied palate, the muscular fruit is well supported by a firm level of finely grained tannins with medium-high acid to lend just enough lift, finishing long. This wine is for the long haul and should drink best 2014 to 2024+. Importer: Ronnie Sanders, Vine Street Imports, Philadelphia, PA; www.vsimports.com
