The 2009 Les Tourelles de Longueville has a lovely, pure bouquet with joyful red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas. The oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, and a fine line of acidity. Fleshy and nicely framed with raspberry and blackberry laced with tobacco and a generous sprinkling of cracked black pepper on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Furry nose and sweet start to the palate. Then very drying on the end. Uncomfortable composition. (JR)

The 2009 Les Tourelles de Longueville is a delicious second label from Pichon Baron. The nose is straight-down-the-line, classic, pencil box-infused black fruit, not powerful but actually quite classic in style. Indeed, to my surprise that palate appears to have firmed up since I last tasted it, lost some of that puppy fat and turned into a delightful if conservative (for the vintage) Pauillac. Factor in price and you are onto a winner. Enjoy now but don't be afraid to tuck away a couple of bottles because it has commendable substance. Tasted January 2017.

Some lift and freshness. Round fruit. Chewy green notes on the end. Tannins seem to have melted to quite an extent. (JR)
