2010 Patache d'Aux

Pale ruby. Light, soapy nose. Easy wine that's very well balanced. The fruit was not that intense but it has been handled with great sensitivity. (JR)

This is still one of my favorite Cru Bourgeois estates, ever since I discovered the 1982, which drank well for a full decade of its life. This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is surprisingly full-bodied in 2010. Deep ruby/purple, with loads of loamy soil notes, forest floor, black currant, and even some smoky herbs and a splash of lavender, it’s a sleeper of the vintage, a richly textured, multi-dimensional and very attractive wine to drink over the next 7-10 years. A member of the Alliance des Cru Bourgeois du Medoc.

Very plain and muted with slightly unpleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. Clumsily made. Hard to be hopeful that it may improve in the future. (YS)
