Score 93/100 · Drink 2004-2019, Robert Parker, Oct 2004

The 2001 Dry Red Number 2 is a blend of 95% Shiraz and small quantities of such white varietals as Marsanne and Viognier. Complex, exotic, sultry aromas of marmalade, white, red, and black fruits, acacia flowers, pepper, and licorice are followed by a smoky, opulent wine with great delineation, admirable overall structure, beautiful purity, and undeniable personality as well as exuberance, all delivered in an incremental build-up on the palate. While the most accessible of this portfolio, it promises to drink well for 10-15+ years. Importer: Rob McDonald, Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 258-9552

(shiraz with bits of viognier and marsanne) Dark red. Plum , chocolate, minerals, mint and a strong suggestion of soil on the nose. Juicy, bright and minerally, with lovely flavor definition. At once sweet and shapely, with intriguing hints of peach and apricot and a minty lift from the viognier. Firmly tannic on the back end, with more obvious class and length than the Underhill Shiraz . These vines date back to the early '70s.
