Very deep colour but loose textured and slightly unappetising on the palate. Some tannin still obtrudes. (JR)
While pinched, acidic, and austere, but complex aromatically, this great terroir did not begin to exploit its full potential until the arrival of Stephane Derenoncourt and the sumptuous 2003. The 2001 needs to be consumed over the next 4-5 years.
