There is not much of it, but the 2009 Hermitage is sensational. Abundant aromas of blackberry fruit, white chocolate, espresso roast and acacia flowers jump from the glass of this opulent, full-bodied, powerful Hermitage. With great intensity as well as silky tannins, this chewy, thick, well-endowed wine should evolve for 20-25+ years. Proprietor Viale is one of the best in the northern Rhone, but for some reason, this estate remains under most consumers’ radar. Importer: Kysela Pere et Fils, Warrenton, VA; tel. (540) 722-9228
100% Marsanne. Restrained nose. Light and racy. Polished but not much real depth. I’d go for a Hermitage from an old hand really. (JR)
