Tasting notes
The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Grenache Thiele Road displays fabulous, sweet aromas of flowers, black cherry jam, melted licorice, scorched earth, and spice, but little oak. Dense, opulent, and voluptuously textured, it is an impeccably pure, layered, rich Grenache to enjoy over the next 5-7 years. Importer: Fran Kysela, Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA; tel. Ruby-red. Wild, liqueur-like aromas of boysenberry and blueberry preserves, with suggestions of red licorice and subtle musky underbrush. Lush and fat, with a distinctly sweet cast to the ripe berry flavors and a weighty, viscous texture. Some tasters will be impressed by the wine's sheer richness and sweetness, but there's a late-harvest aspect to the fruit flavors that I find a bit unnerving. What would you serve this with?
