Tasting notes
I have always had a weakness for Roberto Voerzio's 2000 Barolo Cerequio, which I think remains one of his best wines to day. Silky, powerful and voluptuous, the 2000 delivers considerable intensity and raciness, all in the ripe, forward style of the year. The 2000 is not especially subtle or nuanced, but it is incredibly delicious today. This is an especially forward, hedonistic wine with all the elements in the right place. The 2000 has been consistently brilliant, as it is once again on this night.

The 2000 Barolo Cerequio is one of my all-time favorite Voerzio wines. Sadly, I haven't had the discipline to keep my hands off the bottles, but I am not the least bit sorry, because they have all been breathtaking. The 2000 Cerequio blossoms on the palate with a burst of small red berries, followed by sweet spices, freshly cut roses, mint and eucalyptus. It possesses gorgeous inner perfume and the silkiest of tannins. The 2000 remains remarkably fresh, with just the faintest signs of early tertiary development. This is for me the reference-point wine from the Cerequio vineyard.
The 2000 Barolo Cerequio, from my cellar, is breathtakingly beautiful. The wine possesses dazzling richness and concentration, with quite a bit of muscle for a Barolo from this site. Nevertheless, the Cerequio remains light and graceful on its feet as expressive, nuanced aromatics accompany the fruit through to the long finish. The oak is beautifully balanced and everything about this wine speaks eloquently to harmony. This is one of my all-time favorite Barolos from Roberto Voerzio.
