Another of the fine single-vineyard estates from Jonathan Malthus, this property at the entrance to the medieval village of St.-Emilion produces a wine that is dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. An absolutely magnificent wine from Malthus, the 2005 Le Carré has sensational concentration, high extract, sweet but abundant tannin, full body, a multi-dimensional mouthfeel with loads of plum, black cherry, and cassis fruit, that underlying stony minerality and a huge finish. Just approaching drinkability, it should evolve for another 20-25 years.

Good deep ruby. Aromas of blackberry syrup, tar and minerals, with a faint roasted quality. Plush, sweet and rich, with very ripe plum and cedar flavors framed by supple, building tannins and just enough minerally acidity. The wine's substantial cedary oak component is nicely integrated with the fruit.

(just finished its malolactic fermentation) Bright ruby. Very fresh aromas of crunchy dark berries and minerals. Offers an almost confectionery sweetness to its berry flavors, but firm acids and pronounced minerality give this wine superb definition and grip. The dusty tannins hit the palate late, giving the berry and chocolate flavors a chance to expand. This has an exhilarating sugar/acid balance.
