Healthy dark crimson. Odd fragrance, not especially vinous – more like an air freshener. Then very mellow, beguiling texture. Much less austere and genuinely ripe than some in this flight. Well made. Only the odd aroma prevents a higher mark. (JR)

This firm, tannic hard, and austere wine displays an impressive dark ruby/purple color as well as some background underbrush and black currants, but the tannins dominate in a wine that is somewhat weedy and a strong candidate to dry out in a decade or more.

Racy, crimson look. Loose, not especially exciting. But solid and workman like. Chewy tannins. Stolid. (JR)

Dark crimson and slightly smudgy at the rim. Sweet and spicy on the nose. Mild, low-key nose but pretty glossy and true to the hardness of Saint-Estèphe. Racy and a little spindly but with definite character. Firm and sleek and quite dry but noble and sinewy without being too aggressively dry. Quite a bit of breed even if not that dense. (JR)
