The 2008 La Dominique has a light, earthy bouquet that just needs more fruit. It lacks vim and vigour and seems reluctant to emit sensory satisfaction. The palate is smooth on the entry with fine acidity, a little monotone with a smear of dark chocolate and mocha, quite long but missing the delineation. It just needs more personality because it feels anonymous. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

A wine that builds with time in the glass, the 2008 Château La Dominique is drinking at point and offers mature black fruits, spice box, dried herbs, and hints of loamy earth in its medium-bodied, textured, silky profile. This is a classy, elegant Saint-Emilion to drink over the coming decade.
Tasted blind. Dark crimson; bluer than most of its peers. Sweet and round. Nicely balanced with fresh fruit, some tannins still in evidence but sufficient fruit concentration to see it through. (JR)

This 29-hectare estate’s site speaks for itself, neighbouring Cheval Blanc, Figeac, Evangile and La Conseillante at the northwestern edge of Saint-Emilion, where the appellation meets Pomerol.
