Terrazas de los Andes

This estate was created by Moët & Chandon in the early 1990s, focused on still wine from high-altitude sites in Mendoza. The property focuses on Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but is best known for its collaboration with Cheval Blanc, Cheval des Andes.

Moët & Chandon set up Chandon Argentina in 1959, looking to create fine traditional-method sparkling wine outside Champagne. Noting the potential for still wine in Mendoza, the company started looking for the right sites and varieties in the 1990s. They purchased a century-old winery (originally known as La Perla), founded by Sotero Arizu, one of the region’s forefathers.

Terrazas de los Andes was born, and they made their first vintage of Reserva Malbec in 1996, which was released in 1999. The vineyards are largely in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley in Mendoza. They have 500 hectares of vines today, with the oldest planted in 1929, focusing on Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

The property is perhaps best known among fine wine lovers for Cheval des Andes, its partnership with Cheval Blanc.
