Score 88/100 · Drink 2013-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2010

The 2007 Mormoreto is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot that spent two years in French oak. Like the Montesodi, it is a dense, powerful wine loaded with fruit. Scents of grilled herbs, smoke, tar, licorice and new leather are woven throughout, adding further complexity and nuance. The tannins finish with substantial firmness that will require further bottle age to melt away. With time in the glass the wine's inner perfume emerges nicely, hinting at what the future holds. As pretty as this is, the Mormoreto is an example of a wine done in with too much tinkering in the cellar.

This is a strong set of new releases from the Frescobaldi family, yet as is often the case, I am left thinking these properties have yet to maximize their full potential. The underlying material in all of the wines is first-rate but winemaking gets in the way too often. Importer: Folio Fine Wine Partners, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 256-2700
