This is a little closed though has a smooth, sweet and creamy nose. A touch of sandalwood. Clean, pure and punchy in the mouth with a creamy mouthfeel. Complete and seductive, with a soft tannic structure behind the fruit. This is balanced and complete. Not singing or dancing, just very good Margaux. Joss Fowler, FINE+RARE, April 2015.

Tasted blind. Smudgy garnet. Leafy, youthful black fruit. On the palate this has lovely depth and length. The tannins are compact but polished. Everything in place for a long and elegant life. Really stands out among the Margaux wines tasted today. (JH)

A delicious window into Margaux in this vintage, with plenty of personality that it shares with the main estate wine. Perhaps a little less depth than the 2016 vintage of Pavillon, but this is just begging to be drunk, with its subtle and softly spoken tannins, and blackberry and raspberry stretching out through the palate. Great quality, with finesse.

The 2014 Pavillon Rouge de Château Margaux has a crisp, precise, Pauillac-like bouquet with fine delineation, a touch of graphite infusing the black fruit, austere but rather compelling. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite supple tannin. I appreciate the balance and elegance of this Margaux, somewhat saline towards the finish with impressive precision. Very fine, very delicious. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
