Not yet released. This is the first sample to be shown. Some of the ingredients in the blend reached 18% potential alcohol, apparently. Presumably this was made as Bérénice Lurton ’ s negotiations for the sale of the property were under way. Tasted blind. Quite deep gold. Round and peachy. Lots of immediate fun but not that long-lived, I suspect. A bit of alcohol on the end. Very simple and sugary. (JR)

The 2019 Climens, cropped at 7.7hL/ha and containing 130g/L residual sugar, has a fragrant and understated bouquet with white flowers and Japanese yuzu. Hints of white linen emerge with time. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, good weight and purity with a touch of spice towards the finish. Gentle and soothing, so much so that it disguises the power in situ, yet it clearly deserves several years in bottle. At least Climens could actually release a wine this year! Tasted at the Climens vertical at the château in April 2022.
A brilliant wine from the first moments. Pear, peach, nectarine, aniseed, fennel, dill, white truffle, plenty to enjoy here even before you get to the stone fruits. Tasted twice, love the bitter twist to give focus on the finish.

Château Climens is one of Sauternes-Barsac’s leading producers of sweet wine. Classified as a Premier Cru or First Growth in 1855 it sits alongside just 10 other Premier Cru estates in Sauternes, only bettered by Ch. d’Yquem, which was granted its own elite classification of Premier Cru Supérieur.
