The 2017 Db4 checks in as a blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has a ripe, rounded, nicely textured style as well as lots of blackcurrants, toasted spices, graphite, and tobacco aromas, building tannins, beautiful mid-palate depth, and a great finish.

The 2017 DB 4 is bold, plush and absolutely delicious. A generous, inviting red, the DB4 is a gorgeous second wine that captures all the signatures of the house style at an accessible price. Blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal add lovely aromatic top notes to a core of ripe red and purplish berry fruit. The tannins are a bit firm - as is typical of the year - but otherwise, the 2017 is impeccably balanced and very nicely done.

The blend this year is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It was aged in French oak, 79% new, and bottled in July 2019. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Proprietary Red DB4 strolls nonchalantly out of the glass with soft-spoken scents of baked plums, blueberry compote and black currant cordial plus wafts of potpourri, fragrant earth, cinnamon stick and tilled soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has compelling mid-palate weight with bags of black fruit preserves and a sturdy frame of grainy tannins, finishing with lovely freshness. 680 cases were made.
