Tasting notes
The 1989 Masseto can be a very fine bottle, but, alas, that is not the case tonight. Our bottle is frayed and falling apart, which is a real shame. The 1989 spent less time in barrel than most vintages, but it's hard to draw any meaningful conclusions given the state of this bottle. I have had better examples.

The 1989 Masseto is pure silk. It shows striking inner perfume and sweetness as it blossoms on the palate with layers of expressive fruit. This is a fabulous showing for the 1989.
About the producer

Established in the 1980s by Lodovico Antinori on the advice of André Tchelistcheff, Masseto was one of Tuscany’s first pure Merlot wines. Sibling to Ornellaia, the Super Tuscan is often considered the Pétrus of Italy – offering powerful, perfumed wines that are highly sought-after by collectors.
