The 2004 Coutet is a little deeper in color than the 2003. It offers tangerine, beeswax saffron and orange blossom scents on the nose, though I would not rank it as the most entrancing I have encountered from this Barsac property. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, tangy marmalade and quince with an almost Alsace-like finish that lingers, a hint of shiso leaf numbing the tongue on the aftertaste. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.

Mid copper. Serious botrytised wine on the nose with satisfyingly savoury notes. Rich and nuanced with extremely lively acidity and good length. Grownup wine. Long. A bit toasty. (JR)
