Tasting notes
The 2009 Les Carmes Haut-Brion offer ample red cherry and crushed strawberry on the nose, touches of brown spice and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little dry in the middle but with more flesh on the finish. It is still not a convincing showing compared to previous bottles and I will seek to revisit this in the future. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Very ripe nose – a bit formless. Very sweet start – a bit exaggerated and lacking freshness. Heavy and a bit astringent. (JR)
Dark crimson. Perfumed. Just a tad syrupy. Lacks freshness. Dramatic but not enough acidity. This wine is all about ripeness. And falls away a bit on the finish. But it's certainly attention grabbing. (JR)

One of the most exciting properties in Bordeaux, Les Carmes Haut-Brion technically sits within the city’s limits today. Guillaume Pouthier arrived in 2012 and, under his tenure, the property has been elevated to the highest ranks.
