Tasting notes
I really enjoyed San Giusto a Rentennano's 2013 Chianti Classico. It shows the best side of the vintage and the estate vineyards. This is a tonic and shapely Sangiovese that is teeming with energy and vibrant cherry fruit. Bright aromas of blackberry, wild berry, cola and spice lift from the glass. The wine shows an almost crunchy texture in the mouth, thanks to its natural freshness and the integrated nature of the tannins.

A wine of extraordinary elegance, the 2013 Chianti Classico will give readers a good look at what is in store for the best wines of the year. Translucent and weightless in the glass, the 2013 exudes finesse. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, tobacco, mint, crushed flowers and new leather are some of the nuances that grace the exquisite finish. Readers should not miss this exceptional Chianti Classico from San Giusto a Rentennano. The 2013 will be even better in a few years, once the tannins soften a touch.
Cask sample. Just mid crimson. Subdued fine and a little salty on the nose. Displays an almost feather-light mouthfeel, yet the palate is perfectly balanced. For now. (WS)
