Liquorice and sweetness on the (non-aggressive) nose. Hints of rhubarb and treacle but at least the acidity and tannin in this treacle toffee is integrated. Could not be anything other than Australian but that's fine! Halfway between a table wine and a port. Perhaps just too syrupy to be taken seriously (cf Coriole 2000). (JR)

The fabulously concentrated, black/ruby-colored 1999 Command Shiraz (from a single vineyard) exhibits great intensity, massive body, and huge notes of smoke, licorice, creosote, blackberries, truffles, and vanilla. This is a dense, chewy, classic example of the full-flavored, massive style that can emerge from old vine Barossa Valley Shiraz. It will hit its prime in 4-8 years, and last for two decades. Imported by USA Wine West LLC, San Rafael, CA; tel. (800)-485-5753, for John Larchet, The Australian Premium Wine Collection
