Tasting notes
Deep red-ruby. Aromas of smoky cassis and blackberry, licorice and gravel, lifted by a violet nuance. Sweet, silky and easygoing; in fact, almost surprisingly open-knit for a 2010. Plush, slightly roasted dark fruit and intriguing earth flavors. Finishes ripe and broad, with a fine dusting of tannins and lingering sweetness.

The Debate's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane shows the aromatic lift and silkiness that is often found in wines from this site. Dark raspberries, rose petals, sweet spices and new leather all flow through to the inviting, racy finish.
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard reveals a quasi-La Mission Haut-Brion, smoky, hot rock, gravelly component as well as medium to full body, plenty of blueberry and black currant fruit, and a juicy mid-palate. While it does not have as much complexity as some offerings from this vineyard, there is enough here to merit an outstanding score. Moreover, I think it will last for a decade or more. These are the first wines I have tasted from The Debate winery, but they certainly have two high quality sources for their Cabernet Sauvignon. Tel. (707) 204-0934; www.thedebatewine.com
