Score 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
(deep marl soil with no chalk) Full straw-yellow color. Subtle, spicy aromas of citrus fruits, pineapple, toasted bread, ginger and caraway seed. Gives a dry impression on entry, with a hint of youthful bitterness. Despite its suggestions of pineapple and candied yellow fruits, this is distinctly backward wine, with an almost icy character (the Grasberg is warm by comparison). Very young and very long. A highly nuanced wine that showed subtle building sweetness as it opened in the glass. But downright inscrutable today and hard to taste, much less judge.
