Tasting notes
The 2000 Secundum exhibits the most saturated purple color as well as the greatest depth and volume. While more backward and less charming than the Broadbent, and less obviously fruity than the Passadouro, it is the most complete port of this trio with outstanding density, high tannin, a big, beefy, chewy style, and considerable length. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. Importer: Martine's Wines, Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400

Dark crimson with black notes. Treacly suave nose. Like the standard Niepoort, massive sweetness on the front of the palate but this wine is more restrained, more tightly furled and perhaps slightly less intense. Very dry finish. One for the Brits?! Treacle toffee cousin of the above but lighter. (JR)
