Very dark and luscious looking. Ripe blackcurrant pastilles. Some tip-top oak. Then rather softer than one would expect. Surprisingly forward. (JR)
Red-ruby. Black raspberry and licorice aromas are accented by black and green pepper. A fine-grained if slightly lean midweight, showing decent intensity and freshness but a green quality throughout. Finishes with dry-edged tannins. Will this expand with time in bottle?
Gamey nose. Very sweet whack of fruit on the front palate. Hugely flattering, which is not something one usually writes about this commune! Maybe the oak is a tad too dominant. Foxgloves and a bit awkward on the finish. The oak is obviously good quality though… (JR)
About the producer
Louis Gaspard d’Estournel purchased Cos Labory in 1847 and in tribute to this history, the Reybier family (owners of Cos d’Estournel today) acquired the Saint-Estèphe estate and its 35 hectares of vines in 2023.
