Monforte d’Alba. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Quite deep, youthful-looking ruby. Nose of garden herbs and hints of fruit cake, but really complex. Plenty of compact fruit framed by gripping tannins. Very long and tannic and mouth-filling without being heavy. Convincing balancing act. (WS)

Monforte d'Alba. Mid ruby. A more complex version of the straight Bussia, and much more closed. Supple fruit and plenty of bitter laurel tannins building up on the finish. Needs time, but already showing promise. (WS)
