Tasting notes
The 2006 Beckstoffer To Kalon had 18 months in small Taransaud and Damey French oak barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Deep but starting to show some garnet at the rim. Dried fruits, fresh leather, sweet black cherries and a hint of star anise on a complex, enticing nose. Quite opulent and spicy on the palate, this smoky, glossy and rich Cabernet lacks some of the refinement and freshness of the 2016 but is powerful and sumptuous. Chalky tannins build on the long finish. (TP)

Medium garnet colored, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon has quite a bit of cedar to begin, with a spice cake and rose hip tea background over a core of kirsch, redcurrant jelly and blackberry preserves with touches of dried herbs and dusty soil. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, grainy, lively, long and perfumed. This would benefit from a further 2-3 years in the cellar.
