(100% cabernet sauvignon, from a cool Coombsville vineyard on red rocky clay and volcanic ash) Bright, dark ruby-red. Very primary aromas of cassis and molten chocolate. Dense and savory but youthfully closed, even clenched, with dark berry flavors complicated by piquant minerality. Firmly structured cabernet, finishing with very good savory length and building tannins.

From Napa’s cool Coombsville area, the backward tasting, deep ruby/purple-tinged 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard displays smoky black currant, tobacco leaf, and barbecue notes as well as more structure and full body. It needs 1-2 years of cellaring, and should evolve for at least 15 years. An outstanding, small, high quality winery that did not make it into my Napa report in issue #186, Realm has turned out a beautiful portfolio of 2007 reds, all of which are made at Chateau Boswell in Napa Valley. The innovative blends (all dedicated to William Shakespeare) are of very high quality. Tel. (707) 967-0226; Fax (707) 967-0227

Bright ruby-red. Pungent aromas of cassis, minerals, game, flowers, cocoa powder and white pepper. At once sweet and perfumed in the mouth, with excellent focus to the flavors of raspberry, currant, bitter chocolate, spices and flowers. Linear rather than fat, with a firm tannic spine giving energy and lift to the finish.
