Full, rich nose. Big – although it’s a Blanc de Blancs there is less chalk here. Pretty good and very serious and savoury. Long and vibrant. (JR)

Light gold. A deeply pitched, mineral-accented bouquet displays ripe citrus fruits, pear skin, camomile and iodine, plus a hint of candied ginger. Broad and chewy, offering powerful citrus pith and mineral flavors, with deeper notes of white peach and fig emerging on the back half. Finishes incisive and gently spicy, with lingering mineral and smoke notes and a touch of truffle. Forty percent of this wine was fermented in older oak barrels. Disgorged October 9, 2012.
Doquet's 2005 Le Mont Aimé, 100% Vertus Chardonnay, is a soft, pretty wine to drink now and over the next few years. Candied lemon, chalk, almonds and sweet spices open up nicely in the glass. The mid-weight structure makes the 2005 quite accessible and enjoyable now. Although not quite as intense as the other wines in this range, the 2005 impresses for its sense of harmony and balance. In this vintage, the Vertus has softer contours than is often the case, which gives the wine more early appeal. Disgorged October 22, 2013. Dosage is 5 grams per liter.
Really quite a bit of age on the nose. Yet with some delicacy on the palate. A little chewy on the finish. Lots of impact. Very firm and refreshing on the palate. Persistent. (JR)
