Score 93/100 · Drink 2007-2020, Robert Parker, Aug 2002
The terrific 1999 (a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot) possesses a murky purple color as well as a sweet nose of vanilla, Asian spices, licorice, and blackberry/currant fruit. The wine is full-bodied, dense, and chewy, with moderately high tannin. This large-scaled, pure red will handsomely repay cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020+. Tel. Saturated full ruby. Musky, gamey aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate, espresso and graphite. Thick but bright and delineated, with complex flavors of cassis, black raspberry, mocha and minerals. Finishes with considerable power and outstanding persistence. This may ultimately match the superb '97.
