The 2000 Barolo Sarmassa (magnum) is another utterly impeccable, layered wine of the highest level. A mélange of ripe red fruit, spices, flowers and mint literally explodes on the palate as this beautifully centered, poised wine shows its class and pedigree. All the aromas and flavors are woven in a rich tapestry of indescribable elegance. This is a dazzling Barolo from Roberto Voerzio.

Voerzio's 2000 Barolo Sarmassa di Barolo, from magnum, shows more weight than the Rocche, along with a darker tonality of red fruit that caresses the palate with seamless power and elegance, Here, too, the aromas are simply breathtaking in dimension and expressiveness, while the wine reveals superb power and muscle, yet with a remarkable sense of harmony that keeps things in balance. This is a towering, majestic Barolo from Roberto Voerzio.

(all bottled in magnums; Sarmassa is in the commune of Barolo, adjacent to Cerequio, which itself straddles the La Morra/Barolo line) Good full red, the deepest color of these 2000s. Flamboyantly ripe, expressive aromas of roasted raspberry, tobacco, woodsmoke, mocha and pungent oak spices. Very sweet and highly concentrated; like a chocolate truffle filled with raspberry liqueur. Subtle minerality lurking. The sweetest of these 2000 Barolos but without quite the surmaturite of a couple of them. Finishes with big, tongue-clenching tannins and excellent length. These vines are normally harvested later than Voerzio's Cerequio parcel.
