The 2016 de Panigon has a simple leathery bouquet that lacks sophistication. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite toasty in the mouth but I appreciate the mint-tinged finish. Drink over the next 5 years or so. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Deepish crimson. Intense, mildly leafy blackcurrant aroma with a hint of pencil and cedar. Firm, fresh, almost salty. Classic Médoc harmony. Not showy but satisfying. (JH)
