The 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain is rich yet tense and drinking beautifully! It has dynamic scents of matchstick, candle smoke, panna cotta, quince paste, lemon peel and spring honey, and its new French oak spice is seamlessly integrated. The full-bodied palate is hedonistically styled with kaleidoscopic, mouth-coating flavors. Bright, softly tangy acidity brings structure and precision, and it has a very long, detailed finish. It should be long lived in the cellar.

The 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain comes from grapes harvested on September 21. The wine matured for 12 months in 50% new Damy oak, plus an additional six months in stainless steel. It has alluring aromas of honeycomb, orange blossom and peach cobbler, and it continues to unfurl aromatically as it airs in the glass. The palate is luxuriously satiny with taut, structuring acidity and a long, latent finish. It has plenty of unwinding left to do. 130 cases were made. (EB) 94+

Sweetly alluring, the 2021 Chardonnay Chehalem Mountain is intense, lifting from the glass with crushed rocks and white smoke, giving way to ginger-tinged green apples accented by hints of almond custard and vanilla bean. Silky, round and supple, this flows easily across the palate, guided by brisk acidity as a salty concentration forms toward the close. The 2021 leaves a minty freshness and cheek-puckering tension as a mineral crunch lingers. I love how the Chehalem Mountain plays on the palate, crisp yet with a balanced opulence. 46% new French oak, Damy barrels. (EG) 95+
