Tasting notes
The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a spicy, meatier nose, perhaps with just a bit of Brettanomyces in the background? The palate has an attractive opening with more black than red fruit, and is fresh, if rather oaky at the moment. I like the tannic structure here, but what is missing is personality. In the glass, the wine begins to sag a little. Maybe just a bit late-picked? Still quite delicious. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, matured with 20% whole bunches, has a tightly wound bouquet with dark berry fruit suffused with fine mineralité . The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a taut line of acidity with hints of dark truffle and a subtle charcoal note towards the finish. Fine grip in the mouth, this should mature nicely over the next decade and more.
