Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2028, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2024

The first cuvée the Rothschilds created, the NV Champagne Concordia Brut is 60% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot Noir, 60% from the 2019 vintage and the rest reserve wine. It pours a bright pale yellow hue and offers aromas of sweet pears, fresh flowers, yeasty bread dough, and candied lemon. Medium-bodied and refreshing, it has a spritely, fluffy mousse and is charming and approachable. It will be best enjoyed as a fresh style over the next couple of years. This saw 6 grams per liter dosage and four years aging in the cellar before release. 300-350,000 bottles were produced, accounting for 70% of their annual production. This is my first time tasting the Champagne of Barons De Rothschild. They work with 85 hectares, mainly in Montagne de Reims and in the Côte de Blancs.

The NV Concordia, a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir with a dosage of six grams per liter, reveals a fruity, fresh bouquet with aromas of red berries, peony, spring flowers and orchard fruits. Moderately weighted and tense, it’s taut and incisive with elegant autolytic notes of honey and pastry.

60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir. Based on 2017 harvest. 40% reserve wine. At least four years on lees. Dosage 5 g/l. Bright primary lemon fruit with toffee and caramel on the palate – plenty of maturity here, yet not so much autolysis. Savoury and slaty on the nose, in a style that is almost akin to good Riesling Sekt. Smoky finish. A bit sharp and almost austere. (RH)

Lots of bread-dough and dried-apple character with lemon undertones. Roasted-nut and bread-dough undertones. Fine bubbles. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Drink now.
