Score 87/100 · Drink 2009-2015, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Dec 2009

The opaque purple-colored 2008 Shiraz Angel’s Share has a slightly porty, liqueur-like nose leading to a dense, layered, ripe, but monochromatic mid-palate. Some might find it over-the-top. Drink it over the next 6 years. Michael Twelftree’s Two Hands negociant label is solid but not quite up to the standards established by the past several years because of the challenging 2007 and 2008 vintages in South Australia. The wines are discussed in the order in which they were presented. The Garden Series is designed to highlight Shiraz from a diversity of appellations (or GIs as they are known in Australia). Deep ruby. Ripe, smoky aromas of blackberry and cherry pie, with complicating notes of licorice and dark chocolate. Broad and jammy, offering sweet dark berry flavors and a slow-building cocoa quality. Finishes supple and sweet, with a repeating licorice note and zesty mineral and spice qualities.
