Daniel Chotard is another Eastern Loire vigneron who managed in the tricky 2006 vintage to turn in a wine every bit as successful as his 2005. This 2006 Sancerre smells of salted lime, gooseberry, and (in a manner that is proving typical for the vintage at this stage) pineapple and white peach. Here too we encounter the combination of lusciousness with bracing freshness and invigorating, subtle bitterness that are hallmarks of the best 2006 Loire Sauvignons. Your palate will be tickled by a positively tactile sense of nettle, peach fuzz, and gooseberry which some tasters might find more irritating than delightful. Light, bright gold. Fresh, mineral-laced pear, green apple and jasmine aromas, with a strong sea salt element. Firm and juicy, with vibrant apple and citrus flavors braced by dusty minerals and a tangy, peppery note. Strikes a fine balance of mineral and fruit flavors, and finishes with impressive depth and length.
