Tasting notes
The 2005 Matriarch is the closest to full maturity of any of these wines. It still has another 12-15 years of life left in it. It is very fragrant, with sweet black cherry and mulberry notes, dense dark cherries and a full-bodied, gorgeous texture. This is a rather extravagantly concentrated, beautifully round wine, with notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, cassis and a deep, full-bodied, luscious mouthfeel. Very drinkable, it can continue to be drunk over the next 10-15+ years.

Good deep ruby-red. Blackcurrant, minerals, mocha and sexy spices on the musky, slightly gamey nose. Big, lush and sweet but with sneaky acidity giving shape to the creamy flavors. I like this very rich wine's exhilarating high tones in the middle palate. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and noteworthy energy. A worthy follow-up to the excellent 2004.
Deep red-ruby. Redcurrant, minerals and mocha on the fresh nose. Lush and sweet but vibrant, with a rich chocolatey character to the dark berry and mineral flavors. Juicy balancing acidity gives this wine an early harmoniousness. Finishes vibrant and persistent, with sweet tannins.
