The 2006 Barolo comes across as dried out and austere, even within the context of this super-classic vintage. Dried flowers, iron, orange peel and dried cherries add nuance over time, but it is the tannins and overall structure that dominate today.

Barrel sample – they intend to bottle in the next few months. Smells like strawberries, cranberries and orange juice – a cosmopolitan! Packed with cranberries and very perfumed spices, cardamom. Delicate and interesting and a little bit lighter than some although with plenty of finesse. (TC)
