Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Zinfandel Sadie Upton Vineyard begins with a very pure blood orange aroma that segues to notes of tar, aniseed, cinnamon stick, baked peaches and potpourri. The medium to full-bodied palate is a touch more strict than the nose would lead you to believe. It has serious, earth-laced fruits with a firm, grainy frame and good freshness, and it finishes long. This will benefit from another couple years in bottle.

In 2018, the Sadie Upon is compelling and full of promise. This high altitude site at 1,500 feet often yields wines of real pedigree. That is once again the case with the 2018.
