The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley comes from the Moon Mountain District and is blended with 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. "The vines were shutting down due to lack of water," viticulturist Phil Coturri recalls of the 2016 growing season. Matured for 22 months in 90% new oak, the nose begins with savory shiitake and soy before blossoming to red cherries, chocolate and mint—it really evolves as it spends time in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is seamlessly fresh, powdery in texture and restrained, with mineral-driven fruit. Give it a few more years in bottle. 910 cases were made.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is based on 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Malbec, and there are just over 1,000 cases produced. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by classic Cabernet darker currant fruits as well as medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of chocolate, gravelly earth, and tobacco. Nicely textured and balanced, with some up-front charm already, it should keep for another 15+ years in cold cellars.
