The 2001 La Fleur-Pétrus is much more cohesive on the nose compared to the Hosanna, offering red berry fruit, antique furniture, truffle oil and clove. There is a touch of rusticity, but it is wonderfully cohesive. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, a splash of soy on the entry, moderate weight and gentle grip toward the tarry finish. Very fine. I would drink this over the next decade.

Relatively pale ruby. Very heady, meaty, gamey nose. Neat, contained palate in classical mould. Quite intense. But the opposite of showy. Long and noble. Very grown up and sophisticated. (JR)
Lots of evolution at the rim. Arguably the most evolved 2001 of this entire collection. Sweet and thick and opulent and enveloping, A sauna of a wine. Well done even if very far from the left bank model. Meaty – lots there. So sweet and opulent. Long and rich, neat and well balanced. (JR)
About the producer
Château La Fleur-Pétrus was the first acquisition of many in Pomerol by Jean Pierre Moueix, who went on to own Château Trotanoy, Château Hosanna and most notably Pétrus. Jean Pierre Moueix was born in Corèzze in moved to Saint-Émilion with his parent in 1929 following the Great Depression.
