Still tight and taut, the glorious 2006 RunRig looks capable of aging through at least 2030. Floral notes appear on the nose, along with ripe raspberries. This is surprisingly young, vibrant and fresh, with a long, silky finish.

Showing even a bit better than a previous bottle (reviewed in Issue 4), the 2006 Torbreck Run Rig (97% Shiraz & 3% Viognier, aged 30 months in new and older French oak) delivers a dense, complex bouquet of cassis and licorice infused blackberry styled fruits to go with complementing, complex aromas of peppered meat, underbrush, and subtle tobacco. Full bodied and decadent on the palate, with loads of fruit, but also superb balance and serious length, this is approachable and stunning now, but should easily evolve and age gracefully for 15+ years.

Fairly concentrated ruby. Very concentrated and dense – thick and needs lots of time. (JR)

(95% shiraz and 5% viognier) Glass-staining ruby. Heady aromas of black raspberry, blueberry pie, potpourri, sandalwood and patchouli, with a strong mineral quality adding urgency. Completely stains the palate with deep black and blue fruit flavors but possesses uncanny energy, picking up smoky mineral and Asian spice nuances with air. At once creamy and nervy; this hits every corner of the palate. The floral element returns on the finish, which features sappy boysenberry and candied licorice qualities and leaves nervy spice and mineral notes behind. Where are the tannins? Offers an extraordinary combination of concentration, power and elegance.
