Tasting notes
A burst of black pepper, seared meats, crushed violets and incense creates a beguiling bouquet as the 2022 Syrah (Extended Barrel) evolves in the glass. It smoothes over the palate with a sensation of liquid stone, oozing with masses of red and black fruits offset by a twang of sour citrus as notes of inner sage arch across the senses. It's savory, intense, structured and spicy, yet leaves the palate salivating as hints of peppercorn and lavender fade. While in need of serious aging, I'd love to see this dropped into a blind tasting of top Northern Rhône Syrah.

The 2022 Syrah opens with mentholated freshness, blending rubbed sage with hints of incense, pine shavings and dusty blackcurrants. This is savory and deeply textural, with masses of mineral-infused red and black berry fruits. It comes across as nearly salty in character as liquid lavender tones and spice embellish the finish. A pleasantly bitter tinge resonates over a bed of fine-grained tannins, while an herbal thrust and notes of clove leave the senses saturated. In a word: spellbinding.
