Tasting notes
Pure gold, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mythicus checks in as pure Cabernet Sauvignon coming from three separate vineyards. It has that incredible profile of power without weight that’s so hard to find, and again, it has a Lafite-like elegance and class in its aromatics as well as on the palate. Blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, loamy earth, freshly sharpened pencils, and graphite all define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, with incredible tannins and a broad yet seamless, pure, and precise mouthfeel. It hit 14.5% natural alcohol, the pH is 3.85, and it spent 18 months in new T5 barrels from Taransaud. This wine absolutely stopped me in my tracks. There are just 175 cases produced, but it’s a legendary Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon that I suspect will have 30+ years of prime drinking.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Mythicus Paradise Hills Vineyard is dense, powerful and explosive right out of the gate. Gravel, crushed rocks, spice, leather and tobacco lend striking aromatic complexity. The 2019 is a brooding, virile Cabernet that needs time, but it is super-impressive, even in the very early going.
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Mythicus Paradise Hills Vineyard opens with profound crème de cassis, blueberry preserves and chocolate mint scents, with hints of unsmoked cigars, cedar chest, clove oil and cast-iron pan. The medium to full-bodied palate has beautifully ripe, fine-grained tannins supporting the elegant black and blue fruit layers. Charged with energy, it finishes epically long and multilayered.
