Score 89/100 · Drink 2014-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2014

The de Malle 2001 has a soft apricot and marmalade scented bouquet with just a touch of burnt toffee. The palate is ripe on the entry with a hint of spice. It is quite compact but with good weight in the mouth, though it cuts away abruptly on the marmalade-tinged finish and consequently I have to shave a couple of points off my score.

Pale-medium gold. Aromas of fruit salad, honey and herbs. High-pitched and slightly hard-edged, with penetrating peach and spicy oak flavors. Rather powerful and juicy but not especially fleshy or sweet. Currently a bit unyielding on the finish and in need of time. May well be better than it's showing today.

Rich, broad and very, very full. Relatively low in acidity and faintly raisiny, but no shortage of botrytis. Big build. Very rich and creamy. (JR)
