2012 Behrens Family Erna Schein The Heavyweight

A distinctly powerful wine, the appropriately named 2012 The Heavyweight is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot from a handful of top sites in the valley. Here, the wine really speaks to depth, intensity and concentration above all else, with savory and mineral notes pushed forward and less overtness in the fruit than is common in the Behrens wines. There is plenty of nuance to provide superb drinking for another 7-10 years, perhaps longer.
