Tasting notes
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, racy and explosive to the core. An exotic tapestry of plums, sweet black cherries, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and dark spices race across the palate. Ample and intense, the 2012 has more than enough depth to fill its broad-shouldered frame. The 2012 is the most open-knit vintage made here so far. I imagine it will provide several decades of fine drinking. In keeping with the style of the vintage, the 2012 is quite generous and resonant, with a demi-glace like sense of silkiness and unctuosity. This is the first vintage that incorporates the younger 20 year-old vines. Next to some of the other vintages made so far, the 2012 is a bit monochromatic, but it is striking for its sheer opulence. Just 143 cases were made.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon marks a return to a much more classic expression of To-Kalon. Dark blue and black fruit, spices, licorice and smoke race across the palate in a voluptuous, resonant Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with fabulous depth and power. I imagine the 2012 will provide a wide window of pure drinking pleasure for the next two decades or so.
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is exquisite. Although the 2012 doesn’t offer the voluptuous intensity of some other years, it has aged beautifully. All the elements are in the right places. Floral aromatics and silky tannins add to an impression of total finesse. This is such a classy, polished Napa Valley Cabernet.
