The 2014 Clinet lacks a bit of vigor on the nose, tarry black fruit with pencil shavings and tobacco, a little Left Bank in style indicative of some ripe Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, fleshy with fine acidity, though it just misses amplitude and personality on the finish where is just seems to coast. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.
Tasted blind. Dark, youthful colour. And youthfully fresh fruit aroma, dark and lively. Light-bodied, elegant. Tannins are dry, very fine, but it’s not classic Pomerol. (JH)
Attractive fleshy damson and black cherry fruits, with crushed rose petal fragrance that is extremely moreish, and salted cracker lift on the finish. A little less precision than you find in the 2015 or 2016 vintages here, but this has grip and promising evolution, and is ready to drink. First year in the new cellar at Clinet, aged with 60% new oak.

With Ronan Laborde at the helm, this property has become one of Pomerol’s most sought-after. He has increased the proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, which historically represented half the vineyard area here.
