Always love going back to more classically balanced 2019 vintage after tasting an exuberant 2018, and it is no different here. Captures the gourmet pleasures and the lusciously seductive texture of Lascombes tannins, given muscularity and a stretched-out quality through sculputed black cherry, cassis, damson fruit, overaid by sharper orange peel, mandarin, crayon and slate. The 2019 Lascombes has more fruit concentration on the nose with blackberry and boysenberry fruit, not quite as floral as the d'Issan but still exuding the character of the appellation. The palate is smooth and quite opulent, very good weight, dense and structured, building in power towards its multi-layered and persistent, mineral-rich finish. This is a bit of a showstopper. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
New owner, Gaylon Lawrence. Tasted blind. Very deep crimson. Sweet, attention-grabbing nose. Fruit just a little overripe and lacking freshness. Not the purest, and the fruit and tannin are currently miles apart, which is a bit of a worry for future development of this evolved fruit. (JR)
The 2019 Château Lascombes showed well, with outstanding notes of cassis fruits as well as cedarwood and tobacco, and it displays more dark, earthy nuances with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has terrific balance, building tannins, and the vintage's pure, fresh, and focused style front and center. Hide bottles for 4-6 years and enjoy them over the following two decades.

With vines spread across 40 different parcels throughout the appellation, Ch. Lascombes is one of the most fragmented but also largest Médoc estates, with 120 hectares of vines, now owned by the MACSF insurance company.
